From an early age, she loved performing and would jump at any chance to perform on the stage. She was taught to dance by her parents, and took ballet lessons at the Santa Monica Playhouse when she was a young child. She started acting in 1996 after she received the role in the TV drama Party of Five. Even though she was accepted by New York University, Kate Hudson was more focused on becoming a showbiz entrepreneur than a degree. After acting in some minor films, she landed the role that proved to be a breakthrough role in her professional career. She was cast as Penny Lane in the comedy-drama film Almost Famous. The film was a failure in terms of box office revenue however, it did receive positive review from critics. It established Kate as an actor in the American film industry.
